The Reader on the Roof.
Thanks to the efforts and generosity of the Crim Primary School students and families, Principal Kelliann TenKate made her way to the school’s roof and read to the students.
That was the deal that was struck between the energetic Principal TenKate and the Crim students and community.
Jump back to earlier in November to explain why Principal TenKate stood on the school’s roof at Crim on a brisk Thursday morning, November 20, and read to the student body and staff.
On Wednesday, November 5, Crim students participated in a walk in support of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
The research that St. Jude’s performs its mission to treat and defeat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
According to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the institution is dedicated to advancing cures and prevention methods for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Through groundbreaking treatment and research methods, expert staff and a community of supporters,
St. Jude provides customized care for some of the world's sickest children regardless of their race, ethnicity, beliefs, or ability to pay. And families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food — so they can focus on helping their child live.
That being said, Crim students laced up their sneakers and took a nice, long walk to raise funds.
Principal TenKate presented them with a challenge.
“Incentive No. 1: If we met the school fundraising goal of $5,000, I would read aloud a book to the students from the roof of the school,” Principal tenKate reported.
“Incentive No. 2: The class that raised the most for the cause would get to watch a movie/show on the new Play-Lu Interactive Playground recently installed in the gym...and the show came with popcorn as a treat,” she revealed.
The winning class was Kira Kroog's 2nd Graders, who raised over $1,000.
Finally, Principal TenKate climbed the ladder and sat on a chair on the roof, wearing a turkey hat, and then read the book titled “How To Catch A Turkey” before the audience of students and staff in the front area of the school.
All for a great cause that Principal TenKate was thrilled to share.
“We had 75 percent of our donations go directly to St. Jude. In total, Crim Primary School raised $6,874.66, which means that $ 5,156.00 went to St. Jude,’ Principal TenKate proudly released..
“Great job, Colts!”
