BRHS girl volleyball champs

Bridgewater-Raritan High School was recognized for its terrific girls’ volleyball season this fall in proper fashion.

The team won the Somerset County Tournament championship—its first since 2016—and its star player, Ava Marvuglio, were both honored by the Skyland Conference.

Bridgewater-Raritan received the Skyland Conference Team of the Year award, and Marvuglio was named the Skyland Conference Player of the Year recipient.

Bridgewater-Raritan’s successful season was guided by its dedicated coach, Josh Everett, who led the team to a 25-4 record.

“ This season was one of the best in Bridgewater-Raritan history, and I am so excited that my players are being recognized for their incredible accomplishments,” Coach Everett stated. “This group of athletes put in so much work over the course of the past year, playing club volleyball, hitting the weight room, working out in the summer in a gym with no air conditioning, and then the grind of a season.”

Coach Everett was thrilled with the selection of Marvuglio, a senior, who was chosen as the conference's top player.

“I am so incredibly proud of Ava. She was an absolute workhorse for our team this year and is so deserving of all of the postseason accolades,” Coach Everett said. “ I cannot remember a single player who made such a significant impact on this program in terms of our culture and competitiveness. She made every player around her better and was a joy to coach.”

He continued to share his feelings about Marvuglio, who led Bridgewater-Raritan with 283 kills and 457 digs; each total was the third best in the Skyland Conference. Her number of digs was the 11th highest in New Jersey.

“ To me, she was one of the best players in the state this year, and I am so happy that her season is being recognized the way it has been. Ava left a lasting imprint on the Bridgewater-Raritan girls’ volleyball program.”

Coach Everett concluded with a comment about the overall season.

“We all committed to working for each other and not for trophies or accolades, and our bond together is what drove us to such an incredible season. I am so incredibly proud of our program, players, coaches, and parents for this great year.”
