Kaitlyn Chu and Sofia Daniels capped their brilliant junior girls’ cross-country seasons at Bridgewater-Raritan High School during the Meet of Champions on Saturday, November 15.

Competing in a field of 159 runners, Chu placed 25th with a time of 18:58, while Daniels finished 79th with her effort of 19:51 at the rugged terrain of Holmdel Park.

Their finishes marked the first time that Chu, who won the Somerset County championship this year, broke 19 minutes and Daniels broke 20 minutes at Holmdel Park.

According to Bridgewater-Raeritan Coach Dr. Adam Pyle, Chu now holds the third-best time on the course in school history, behind Marissa Ruskan, who was timed at 18:22 in 2012, and Monal Chockski, who ran a 18:39 in 1990. Daniels’ time is the seventh best in school history.

Chu and Daniels led Bridgewater-Raritan to the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 state title on November 1, the school’s first state sectional championship since 2006.

“The season as a whole was historic, but this showing at the Meet of Champions was the cherry on top,’ Coach Pyle said.
